Can grammar be learned naturally - without studying the grammar rules - by a non english speaker?

The above question is the most controversial in the tesol world.
My experience tells me that learning the grammar rules, saves you time.

But before we look into it, lets see together the most common types of questions in the toeic grammar test.

You will be tested on your knowledge of two aspects of word choice: word families adn similar words.

Grammar questions have options that are from the same word family.

TOEIC Grammar example:

The new employee is very __________.
a) creation
b) creating
c) creative
d) create

This is a grammar example because all the words are from the same word family. The question is testing your ability to choose the correct form of the word.

In order to answer these types of questions correctly, you should first decide if the question requires knowledge of grammar or vocabulary.
